BRICS Literary Award: A New Bridge for Cultural Exchange Between the Member Countries

The BRICS Literary Award, established at the I BRICS Forum "Traditional Values" in November 2024, became an important step in the development of cultural exchange between the BRICS countries.
During the press conference on June 30, 2025, the goals and objectives of the award were presented. Among the participants were Sergey Stepashin, President of the Russian Book Union and member of the Organizing Committee of the award from Russia, Dmitry Kuznetsov, a member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, member of the Committee on International Affairs, and head of the award's Secretariat, as well as other representatives from culture, science, and politics from the BRICS countries.

The BRICS Literary Award aims to foster intercultural dialogue and promote traditional values through literature. Literary creativity serves as an important tool for breaking stereotypes, forming empathy, and deepening mutual understanding between peoples. The press conference highlighted how literature can be a bridge between civilizations, uniting more than 3 billion people, who constitute the population of BRICS countries.

Dmitry Kuznetsov, head of the award's Secretariat, spoke about the creation of the BRICS Common Values Research Group, which identifies key values such as mutual respect, solidarity, peacefulness, and mercy. These values will be presented at the II BRICS Forum "Traditional Values" in Brazil in September 2025.

The BRICS Literature Network project was also announced, which brings together writers, publishers, and literary scholars for continuous cultural exchange.

The international response to the award was positive. Speakers from India, the UAE, Iran, and Egypt highlighted the importance of the award in maintaining cultural dialogue and respecting diversity. According to them, literature is a universal language for overcoming barriers and solving global problems.

The process of awarding the prize includes several stages: a long list in September, a short list in October, and the announcement of the winner in November in Moscow. The winner will receive a prize of $10,000. Additionally, an award for the best literary debut will be established within the framework of the prize, with a competition among Russian authors scheduled for October 2025.

The BRICS Literary Award represents a significant step in the development of international literary cooperation and the strengthening of intellectual and cultural ties between the countries of the union.
